Associate Artistic Director at 52nd Street Project

  • Teaching: Playwriting classes for children age 9-11, creates and leads writing and rehearsal workshops for all of our theater programming and creative retreats, as well as co-teaching and developing curriculum for the 2-year-long Teen Ensemble acting program.
  • Directing: Working one-on-one with kid and adult actors to shape their playwriting and their performances. Collaborating with the Artistic Director to give notes during tech and dress rehearsals, and doing last minute “polishing” of the shows.
  • Trips: Seven weekend and week-long trips per year, in addition to a few in-town weekend writing workshops, responsible for accompanying kids, volunteers, and other staff members on these trips in order to guide and advise the writing and rehearsal processes.
  • Productions: The Project mounts nine productions per year. The AAD helps to facilitate and schedule in-house rehearsal times and spaces for all productions.
  • Education: Collaborate with the Director of Education and Program Director to conceive and produce education programs promoting the synergistic relationship between the Project’s educational and theatrical components.
  • Community: Assist in the intake of new Project kids and families, general supervision and hanging out with kids during the after-school hours, developing mentoring relationships with children, maintaining positive contact with teachers, administrators, and families.

Program Director at CUNY-Creative Arts Team (CAT)

Managerial and artistic supervision of drama-based in-school and after-school programs.

  • Oversee hiring and supervising of approximately 15-30 staff members including associate program director, teaching artists, activity specialists, CUNY Service Corps members, college interns, apprentices, and program manager.
  • Design and implement staff trainings.
  • Develop in-school and after-school drama-based programming for approximately for high schools, middles schools and elementary schools with teaching artists.
  • Build and maintain relationships with funders, parents, teachers, school administration, students, staff and other providers.
  • Manage approximately a $1M budget.
  • Ensure quality programming through program observations, mid and end-of-year reviews and evaluations.
  • Develop and support recruitment, promotional strategies and materials.
  • Identify and develop professional development opportunities for after school staff.
  • Work closely with other CAT departments to insure programming: Operations, Fiscal, and Development.

Trained to portray the personal history, physical symptoms, and emotional characteristics of a medical patient for the training of medical students and practitioners.

After School Facilitator for Community Action Theatre Troupe (CATT), Brooklyn

The CATT after school is a 6th-8th grade drama-based literacy program.
Responsibilities include:
• Design and implementation drama youth programming which have a co-intentional relationship with the Common Core Standards in ELA.
• Design and implementation of the “Reach Project,” a project inspired by Noel Greig’s work on Twinning.
• Supervise and mentor an intern and CUNY Service Corps member.
• Maintain monthly progress notes on youth members which focus on their literacy individual education plan.

Teaching Artist for Stella Adler Studio Outreach Division

Providing teachers and students with a free acting class in their classrooms, which focus on enhancing literacy skills identified the Common Core Standards in ELA.

Associate Program Director of Elementary & Middle School Program at
Creative Arts Team/CUNY (CAT)
CAT is an educational theatre company, which utilizes drama to inspire and educate.

A)Assist in managerial and artistic supervision of two drama-based literacy after-school programs called Community Actions Theatre Troupe, under the Department of Youth & Community Development’s (DYCD) Adolescent Literacy Project at MS 347’s Beacon YMCA and Bronx Early College Academy (BECA). This is project is a pilot project and the first off-site afterschool program fully run by CAT.
Responsibilities include:
•Curriculum Map design in accordance with affiliated NYC-DOE school’s 6th grade curriculum map with especial attention on ELA Common Core Standards.
•Strategic planning for recruitment and retention of 6th grade participants: Bring a Friend Challenge, Demo Video Design, Mid-Year News Letter, Weekly Parent Calls.
•Event planning, marketing, and implementation of Guest Speaker Series and off-site field trips.
•Development of systems, procedures, and protocol for correspondence, trips, and guest visits.
•Supervise data collection in compliance with grant.
•Develop and build community relations with school of residence, (staff, students and parents) local library, café, museum and local businesses.
•Implement literacy assessments.
•Effective utilization of limited budget.

B) Provide managerial and artistic support to the Program Director for Elementary/MS Programs. This includes supporting a team of 6-8 professional teaching-artists in residence at 8 school sites under a Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) and Neighborhood Development Area Grant (NDA)
Responsibilities include:
•Development and implementation of programmatic policies and procedures.
•Assist in artistic and educational development of curriculum.

C) Coordinate and maintain media collection and database.

Producer and Playwright for the production of “Undocumented”

“Undocumented” is a fully staged, one-act, Off-Broadway production with 6 actors and 3 designers. Production history: 4 performances at Stage Left Studio, 6 performances at Turtle Shell Theater, and currently on tour (NYU and Museum of the City of New York)
Responsibilities include:
•Staff, cast and raise funds (via Kickstarter and individual investors).
•Build and maintain relationships with mainstream and social media, as well as public and private institutions (CNN, Senator Perkins, NYU, CUNY, Documentarians).
•Develop and maintain database of contacts.
•Manage and expand the visibility and use of the website and other social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter.
•Coordinate the multimedia documentation, graphic design and video production.
•Develop outreach strategies for tour.
•Maintain budgets and coordinate box office.

Artistic & Managing Director and Founder for UnBoxed Voices
Unboxed Voices presents monthly events: “Evening of Short Stories” & “Monday Monologue,” along with annual events: Variety Show and Short Play Festival
Responsibilities include:
•Build a database and maintain relationships with writers, performers, and venue owners.
•Manage marketing and expand the visibility and use of social media platforms.
•Coordinate bookings and scheduling.

Standardized Patient (SP) for Mount Sinai Morchand Center
As part of the education of medical students they must develop their practical experience with patient encounters. As an SP I portray assigned characters whom the medical students encounter as part of their course work. In addition to day-long dramatic portrayal the SP must grade the students on specific criterion as part of their grade.

Consultant & Trainer for Legal Aid Society Brooklyn Office for the Aging

•Design and implement a drama-based interactive professional development for 8 attorneys, which focused on client in-take skills.

Teaching-Artist & Literacy Leader for Elementary/Junior High School Program at Creative Arts Team/CUNY

Under the Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD), in collaboration with Neighborhood Development Area, Literacy Leader incorporates the use of drama as a tool and strategy for promoting and enhancing literacy in 2 Brooklyn public schools: Mott Hall IV in Bedford Stuyvesant and McKinley Intermediate School IS 259 in Bay Ridge.

Project Synopsis: During interactive workshops, Literacy Leader delivers arts-based literacy curriculum for 6th grade students. Addressing NYC Performance Standards for English Language Arts, Literacy Leader encouraged students to express their ideas by writing fiction, poetry, biography, autobiography, scripts, letters, critical commentary, and persuasive essays, and to illustrate them with pictures, music, and drama. Literacy Leader incorporates Balanced Literacy strategies within the educational drama workshops. These include reading instruction, word study, independent reading, writing instruction, and independent writing. By coupling reading, writing, and verbal exercises with topics of interest to youth, Literacy Leader generates enthusiasm and motivates learning. Lessons were supported by weekly collaboration with English Language Arts teachers in order to meet NYS/DOE ELA Standards.

Other projects include curriculum design and implementation of 10-day residency for CUNY School Support Organization (SSO) Summer Program, a five-week, pre-college, credit-bearing program for high school students. Topic: Spirit of Comedy
